IMPORTANT NOTE:
Every basement is unique:
unfinished, finished, number of rooms, building materials used, type of heating system, moisture related problems, etc... Determining the correct placement of the Basement ventilation System and the directional movement of the replenishment make-up air is a critical part of the pre-installation process to ensure the best result.

How a Basement Ventilation System Works

The typical basement or crawlspace is below grade, acting like a giant pool under your home collecting moisture and contaminants. It quickly fills with cooler, damper air and can become a breeding ground for bacteria, mold and mildew. Since there is little to no ventilation, the damp air is trapped. Left unattended, the moisture can begin rotting the joists and sill resulting in $1000's in structural damage. Then there are the health concerns with bacteria and mold entering the home upstairs. Installing a basement or crawlspace ventilation system addresses all of these concerns.

Installed in one end of your basement and vented out the exterior wall, a basement ventilation system will move about 200 cubic feet of air per minute. That means in the average size home (1500 sq. ft. basement) you will get an air change about every 1-2 hours. As it expels the damp, musty, contaminated, unhealthy air out of your home, it replaces it with fresh, drier, healthier air from UPSTAIRS in your home. To accomplish this we create a small opening between the first floor and the basement, install a safety insert and grill cover, allowing the dryer healthier air to be pulled into the basement or crawlspace replacing the unhealthy air being expelled. As your basement continues to 'air out' and dry, the air quality will steadily improve and become basically the same as the upstairs air.

Why It's Better:

The system is extremely energy efficient, costing only a small fraction ($4 or less per month) of what a standard dehumidifier costs (as much as $50-$60 per month or more). PLUS, you get the obvious health benefits of FRESH air in the basement instead of simply re-cycling the same old unhealthy stale air over and over, as a dehumidifier does. It's better for your wallet, healthier for your family, better for the environment. Click here to compare a basement ventilation system with a dehumidifier.
